Metamaterial-Based Compact Antenna with Defected Ground Structure for 5G and Beyond

In this paper, a unit cell of single-negative metamaterial structure loaded with meander line and defected ground (DGS) is investigated as the principle radiating element an antenna. The antenna causes even or odd mode resonances similar to depending on orientation microstrip feed used excite cell. However, which gives low-frequency resonance considered here. then parallel split bearing side connects other two sides orthogonal side. This modified excites another at high frequency when defect metallic plane. Specific parameters structure, DGS shape, are optimized place these different frequencies proper intervals enhance bandwidth. Finally, placed in offset position for better impedance matching without affecting bandwidth compact dimension 0.25 λL × 0.23 0.02 λL, where free space wavelength respect center proposed fabricated measured. Experimental results reveal that design monopole like radiation patterns achieves fractional operating 26.6%, from 3.26 4.26 GHz |S11|
